Hey Everyone,

In Madison we're helping Oxfam America recruit new volunteers for 2012-2013. If you are interested in joining the Oxfam Action Corps in Madison please sign up and spread the word by February 14th at http://www.oxfamactioncorps.org/.

Join the Oxfam Action Corps to support women farmers, fight global hunger, and build a better food system! You will meet great people and work together to change laws that can save lives, defend the rights of the world’s poorest farmers, and protect communities from rising food prices and climate change. You will gain leadership skills, have fun, and change the world!

Anybody can join the local effort! All levels of experience are welcome. You can also apply for Oxfam’s free four-day leadership training in Washington D.C. May 12 – May 15.

This year, we will mobilize for the GROW campaign for global food justice. The women and men in poor countries who struggle to grow enough food to feed their families are facing competition for land and water, rising prices, and climate change. We will call for laws that support women and farmers, sustainable practices, and resilience to climate change, and ensure a better future for people in the poorest regions of the world.

This is a year-round volunteer opportunity, with a deadline of February 14 to apply for the spring training. Find out more and sign up at http://www.oxfamactioncorps.org/ .

Pot Luck Supper Oct. 19 and WILCO Concert

We had a blast tabling for Oxfam at the WILCO show at Overture Center last week. The show was sold out (months ago) and the crowd was a lot of fun.

Many concert-goers signed a petition asking Congress to preserve food related foreign aid aid in the next federal budget.

Wednesday, Oct. 19 -- Pot-Luck Supper -- 5pm at 5025 Sheboygan Avenue, Apt. 212, in Madison. We'll observe World Food Day, view some video, talk about what we can do to help end poverty and hunger, and make plans for the Nov. 18, hunger banquet, and -- very important -- have fun.

Hunger Banquet Set

Oxfam volunteers at a planning meeting in Madison. Madison Oxfam Action Corp will hold a Hunger Banquet on November 18. Can you give us some of your time -- from two hours to two days -- to help eliminate hunger, poverty and injustice? If you want to do something about the one in seven chronically hungry people on Earth, help out with planning, cooking, getting food to serve, setting up the banquet room, designing publicity, setting up the Hunger Banquet program, and so on. June First Grow Launch!

"Is this street theatre?" Asked a passerby on June 1st as volunteers and friends of Oxfam Action Corps Madison participated in launching the Grow Campaign. We were all dressed up in formal attire sitting around a finely set table with roses right in the middle of Capitol Square. We were certainly getting attention! But unfortunately it was so windy we were unable to put up any Oxfam signage. Still we managed to get about 30 signatures supporting funding for the international affairs budget for 2012. We were also able to raise awareness around the existence of Oxfam America for some, and the focus of the new campaign for others who already knew about us, and got a few new contacts to add to our list! All in all a fun time and a successful action :)

Our next monthly meeting will be held on the Terrace at Memorial Union on Tuesday, June, 14th at 5:30pm. Rain location = the Rathskeller. You will know us by the green and white Oxfam bandanas!
